Max Bailey to coach U19s

The Ormond AFC is excited to announce that Max Bailey will be the Club’s U19s Coach in 2021.

Max has significant background and experience teaching and developing young men to become the best they can as footballers and people.  He has been a Development Coach at the Richmond Football Club (2014, 2015) and the Hawthorn Football Club (2017 – 2020), and during this period had an influence on 20 AFL debutants from these two Club Academies.

His most recent coaching experience has been as Head Coach of the VFL’s Box Hill Hawks (2019, 2020), and Assistant Coach prior to the main role (2017, 2018).

Before Max got on the coaching bandwagon, he played 43 AFL games as a Ruckman with Hawthorn (2005 – 2013), including as a member of the 2013 AFL Premiership team.  His AFL career was one of incredible courage and resilience having had to endure and recover from three knee ACL reconstructions.

As a local resident, Max is looking forward to joining his local community football club, and to also be back working with an age group that is his true passion.  There is no doubt our Club’s U19 squad in 2021 will have the best coach in the Ammos, and the boys and the Club have secured a ripping bloke also!

Welcome to Ormond, Max, and also to your wife, Rachel, and daughter, Georgia.

Other Coaches

Greg Hoskin was re-appointed as the Senior Coach back in July, not long after the 2020 season was cancelled, and what would have been his inaugural season at the Club.  We all can’t wait until ‘Reggie’ is able to show us his coaching style, which won three premierships for Fish Creek in the Alberton Football League.

Russell Barnes was also re-appointed as the Reserves Coach for 2021, and will again have the dual role as the Director of Coaching and Reserves Coach.  The Club is indeed fortunate to have the experience, coaching skills, mentorship value, and passion of Barney back into the fold at Ormond for 2021.

Assistant coaches will be announced in coming months.  It is not possible for the Club to appoint the U23 and Thirds coaches at this stage, as it is not yet clear whether both or only one of these teams will line up 2021.  One consideration will be how many players ultimately join the Club as U19 players in 2021, which will be the return of U19 football to Ormond since the 2018 season.
